Most of the traders I work with have all had full careers at the firm and rarely leave (which makes these seats so competitive). Couple of reasons: 1) Wasn’t sure if I wanted to do banking when I chose schools. I know MIT is a great school but not 100% sure if they did something like Vandy where they really drive home banking. It’s whether people will leave London for New York. Comp is low versus NY and while cost of living has crept up in both cities, London and Europe in general has been hit harder. You would work for a sponsor and either expand or maintain their existing equity investors. In SoCal these can be folks with $500k to $10mil and up.
