Stay at tier 4 tho and they are one of, if not THE best infantry unit in the game. Line em up shieldwall style in front of fians in loose formation on a hilltop and go make yourself a sammich. I suggest turkey with a little Mayo.

If you are using a shield wall strategy, you’d be wise to take a lot of these guys along with you. There is no more defensively useful unit in the game.Essentially I have a deathstack of 120 mostly tier 4+ horse archers, many of which are Khan’s Guards or the lower ones on the same tree. Any battle with less than 200 opponents ends with at most 10 casualties for me, but when I get into a big battle (600v600) in an army they get decimated (usually 20-40 deaths + 20-40 casualties). Just dont bust up their hideouts and they multiply like catholic bunnies. The best battanian infantry is non-battanian infantry. Run around hiring empire troops if you're at peace, and take them prisoner if you are at war. If you want to roleplay their faction a bit more, just get more archers. All you need is 5-10 infantry with shields and have them stand in front of your line.Imperial Cataphracts are probably the best overall.
