A lot of us (including myself) don't really like seeing the numbers so high, but there's no choice but to accept that the engineers designed the engine to operate at this temperature range. While it's still idling high, the temperature would stabilize again back to 1/2. This would repeat every few minutes. It is not limited to idling. Happens while driving as well, but not as noticeable due to external noises and such. Also, when I started my Jeep, I would hear a water trickling sound in my dash. Normally when the fan comes on after a few seconds/minutes of starting. There is either air in the coolant lines, or a stuck thermostat. There is a bleeder valve on the top of the thermostat. You may have to remove the air intake to get at it, then use a screw driver to turn the bleeder valve to release the air until the cooler starts spitting out.don't put in 160. It won't do any good ot put in a 160. If it is overheating with 195, it iwll overheat with a 160 and probably without any. If the top radiator hose isn't getting hard, then you might have a bad radiator cap, or a leak. I am currently on a road trip from Canada to Phoenix where this Jeep has really struggled.. At highway speeds the temp gauge will increase to 3/4 when going above 70mph or taking wind head on.That creates a worst case situation. With coolant and overheating there is some stabilization of temperature through out the engine. This protects the real heat generation locations, such as the cylinder walls and head between the cylinders.
