MMR only represents RECENT performance. Use it to take note of where you are lately skillwise. KDA is based on your ENTIRE game history. Use it to personally track your own progress/improvements. Some people will abuse quickplay intentionally to lower their MMR in order to boost their KDA.
Basically, Hunt is matching with stars from the previous 10 or so games and that's it. It's not matching with KD or bounty value or prestige or hours played or anything of any other nature. The MMR is a rating of your performance against other Hunters. So if while playing with your 2 star friends, you might get killed more often by 2 star hunters, which would prevent you from moving up. Basically, the more equal or higher MMR players you kill, the higher your MMR will go. 9.
