Apr 1, 2023 · I just did the same repair on my ‘08 Odyssey less than two weeks ago. I bought the OEM spool valve assembly (Honda # 15810-R70-A04) so that I would have the original gaskets. I also used the top portion of the new assembly in the repair. No leaks or CEL since. Within a hundred miles my wife experienced a single hard idle and then the check engine light came on. It was a P3497 and after research on the forum, I discovered the fake VVT Solenoid lower gasket filter was too restrictive likely. So I ordered a new gasket and did the nice easy job of replacing it. Test drove the car and the check engine light came on. A leak can also occur between the spool valve and head or the valve cover is leaking. I’d try the $10 fix first if there is no engine code associated with the leak. Be careful not to loosen or remove upper and lower spool valve bolts. Loosing and retightening may break the Honda bond seal.This is how you fix a common issue on these v6 honda engines. You could put some RTV but i would recommend replacing the whole gaskets

Sadly, Honda doesn't sell the gasket and you need to buy the whole VTEC assembly, this also requires you to remove the front valve cover and camshaft assembly to replace it. I purchased the VVT/Spool valve gaskets from Ebay, because Honda doesn't offer them, replaced and resolved the leak.
