Not wanting to spend a fortune but want a nice, clean resort The Royal Playa del Carmen is a beautiful hotel but the town of Playa del Carmen is much less lively than that of Cancun. I have stayed at both. Cancun is more of a "city" atmosphere and you don't get much of a feel of what Mexico is. Playa del Carmen is much calmer and tends to be less people. The beaches there are just as beautiful.
