The SS has the same 6.2 V8, but it is not supercharged and generates 455 horsepower. The SS is cheaper, with a $38,695 base price instead of $64,195 for the ZL1.

Looks like the ZL1 sits about 3/4 to an inch lower than the SS. Not sure there's a lot of difference in actual ground clearance (like you're mentioning) but there have been some things I've read about trailering that calls out the ZL1 for being a little trickier to load/unload due to things like the splitter.
