You should get 12v on gray wire when key is turned to first position, start-ignition position, and choke position, although with EFI system (no carbs) the computer automatically does the choke function, pressing the key switch doesn't do anything (no choke solenoid). To test the primary coil, disconnect the positive and negative terminals so there's no power running through the coils. Set the multimeter to ohms and connect the positive and negative terminals.
