A great combination to upgrade an 88" is an "over square" 107" motor. A 4.125" bore x 4.00" stroke, with about 10.5 static, a decent set of cams with about .600" lift, good heads and the right pipe and you got yourself a torquey, dependable motor that is a hoot to ride.

Baggers can have the complete powertrain go in and out as a unit. The old Softails required the trans to go in separate. No idea what it takes on the new ones. With that said, it would take some stout men to pull the whole powertrain from a newer FL and not mar anything. Just pulling the engine out alone is more than light work.

According to Wiki the 96 inch motor first came in the 2007 HDs. The motor has been replaced a few times.This one indicates that it fits '99-'06 TC88 engines: S&S Cycle Chain Drive Touring Cam Kit 509 For Harley-Davidson Big Twin 99-06 | eBay.
