Fractal or shuffle for a more exciting game, Continents with Islands for a more normal game, Mediterranean is the only preset map I like at all, it’s actually really fun. Large mediterranean, true start or not. It's by far the best map with the best geography. They made it extremely well, very large.

Hercules, Hippolyta, and the Twins. Hercules gets me districts quick, which is great for my Civs on new continents. Hippolyta is great in war bc she can give a unit a second charge in a turn. The Twins are especially great early-game for building am army by capturing barbarians or other enemy units. For the exploration side of the game, I like maps like Continents and islands, Archipelago, Island Plates or Small Continents where you discover the map with naval units, following the coasts. Well Nubia just blatantly isn't a bottom tier. The early power of Nubian Archers alone is enough to lift them out of it. It is probably the best earliest rush civ out there.
Play Pericles or Peter on a Pangea. That will give you a good baseline of how to handle higher difficulties with an easier road to victory. Also if you want an early war at emperor or higher, I would recommend focusing tech solely on your early war conquests. Watch PotatoMcWhiskey is honestly the best advice.
