May 27, 2007 · In my case, the VTM-4 light never comes on from cold and does not usually come on until the engine is warm. It does come on when the engine is warm but the transmission is cold (e.g. remote start in driveway, warming up but not driven… not even shifted out of park). Once the engine is warm the light is much more likely to come on.

I'm just seeing this thread for the first time, but I was going to comment that it could either be a failure in the VTM-4 system OR a different failure that has disabled the VTM-4 system causing the light to illuminate. In your case, it was obviously the latter. According to that article, the only thing locked is the amount of torque transfered to the rear. If this was the case, why even have the button.

Same symptom here. P0325 trouble code and within a minute or two the VTM-4 light comes on. I replaced the knock sensor yesterday and sure enough the wires from it's connector was chewed. I was glad to see a clear indication of the problem. I put in an OEM sensor (maybe a mistake), ran a new wire then cleared the code.
